Privacy policy
Last updated: 29 September 2026
EatWithLove.food is a static guide to places featured on food television. There are no accounts, no logins, no comments and no payments, so we never ask for — or store — your name, postal address or card details. This page explains the little that is collected, in plain language.
The site is written to be readable without giving anything up: the pages load no external fonts, no third-party scripts of their own and no advertising networks. The only things that learn anything about a visit are the two services described below.
Who is responsible
EatWithLove.food is run privately and independently. It is the controller of the personal data described here. Questions, requests or complaints about privacy go tohello@eatwithlove.food.
What is collected
Hosting logs
Our host records each request to the site — IP address, browser and version, the page requested, the referring page and a timestamp — so that pages can be delivered and abuse blocked. These logs are used for security and troubleshooting only, are not used to build a profile of you, and are deleted on a rolling basis.
Analytics
Google Analytics 4 records how the site is used: which entries are opened, how visitors arrive, how far they read and whether the map is used. It derives an approximate location (city level) from the IP address and records device, browser and screen details. It stores a randomly generated client identifier in a first-party cookie so that a return visit is not counted as a new person. The statistics we see are aggregated; we do not use them to identify anyone, and we never sell or publish them.
Follow and save widget
A grow.me widget allows visitors to follow the site and save places. It is operated by a third party, which sets its own identifiers in your browser and receives the information needed to run the service under its own privacy policy. It is not something we control, and blocking it does not affect how this site works.
Cookies and browser storage
The site itself sets no cookies of any kind. The two services above do, and only for the purposes listed here.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics | Tells a returning visit apart from a new one so the statistics stay meaningful. | Up to 13 months |
| grow.me storage | grow.me | Remembers whether you follow the site or have saved a place. | Set by grow.me |
You can delete or block either of these at any time in your browser settings, or with a privacy extension. Nothing on the site breaks when you do: the map, the entries and the filtering all keep working, because none of them depend on analytics or on the widget.
There are no advertising cookies here, no cross-site retargeting pixels, no social login buttons and no data sold to brokers.
Why it is collected, and on what basis
- To deliver the site and keep it online — legitimate interests, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Hosting logs exist to stop abuse and to diagnose outages, and for no other purpose.
- To see which entries are worth the work — legitimate interests, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Aggregated visit statistics decide what gets researched next, and nothing else.
- To let you follow the site or save a place — handled by the widget provider under its own terms, and entirely optional: block it and the site still works exactly as before.
There is no automated decision-making, no profiling with legal effects and no advertising based on what you read here.
Who else sees it
Three service providers handle data for this site, and nothing is shared beyond them:
- The hosting provider serves the site and holds the server logs described above. The site is a set of pre-built static files, so there is no application database anywhere that stores anything about visitors.
- Google, for analytics. Data may be processed outside the EEA; those transfers rely on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses and, where applicable, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Google Analytics 4 does not store the IP addresses of visitors — the address is used to place a visit approximately and then discarded.
- grow.me, for the follow and save widget, which receives what it needs to run that feature.
Nothing is sold, rented or passed to data brokers, and no visitor data is used for advertising or to train anything.
How long it is kept
- Hosting logs — kept on a short rolling basis set by the host, long enough to investigate an incident and no longer.
- Analytics — the identifiers in your browser expire after up to 13 months; aggregated reports, which no longer describe an individual, may be kept for as long as the site exists.
- Messages you send us — kept for as long as it takes to resolve what you wrote about, plus a reasonable period afterwards in case the same correction is questioned again.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to ask for access to your personal data, to have it corrected or erased, to have its processing restricted, to object to processing based on legitimate interests, to receive it in a portable form and to withdraw any consent you have given — at any time, without it affecting what you could do before.
One honest caveat: the statistics we hold are aggregated, which means we cannot single out an individual visitor’s record on request. Where that is the case we will say so rather than pretend otherwise. The effective way to exercise an objection against the analytics is to block the scripts in your browser — and we will not try to work around a browser that blocks them.
Requests go to hello@eatwithlove.food. If you believe your data has been handled wrongly, you can complain to the Finnish supervisory authority, the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman (tietosuoja.fi), or to the authority in your own country.
Children
This site is a restaurant guide written for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
If what the site collects changes — a new service, a new widget, a new host — this page changes with it, and the date at the top is the version that applies. It is worth re-reading when the date moves.
